The Town appreciates all of Torbay’s business and not-for-profit organizations and is thankful for their ongoing dedication and commitment. This annual event offers an opportunity to shine a spotlight on these businesses and organizations through a public nomination process.

Award Categories
Business of the Year Award
Awarded to the business that exemplifies an all-round excellence in business as well as a significant contribution to the community.
Young Entrepreneur Award
Awarded to a youth, under the age of 35, that has made a significant impact on the community as a business owner / operator and through participation in / support for community events.
New/Emerging Business Award
Awarded to a business that has been in operation for more than 1 year and less than 3 years, has made a significant impact on the community, and shows promise to continue its success in the future.
Economic Impact Award
Awarded to the business that is viewed as an economic driver within the community through its sustainable approach to business, as well as investment in the community that has significant positive impact on the economy of Torbay.
Customer Commitment Award
Awarded to the business that delivers consistent, superior, customer service and commitment to their patrons.
Not-for-Profit Excellence Award
Awarded to an organization that contributes to the economic, social, and/or cultural well-being of the community of Torbay resulting in significant social impact.

What are the Torbay Business Awards?
The Torbay Business Awards is an annual program aimed to recognize and celebrate the Town of Torbay Business Community, including recognizing the efforts non-profit organizations. The Awards program include a nomination process and a celebration event that is typically scheduled during National Economic Development Week in May.
Why should I nominate?
By Nominating a Torbay Business/Non-Profit Organization, you are encouraging, supporting and recognizing the investment and achievements that each has made within Torbay. Your nomination brings attention to all of the outstanding businesses/organizations within our community; it truly is a great way to say ‘thanks’!
Who can nominate?
Anyone can nominate a Torbay Business or Non-Profit Organization. Business and Non-profits can even self nominate. You DO NOT need to be a resident of Torbay to nominate!
I am a business owner, can I nominate my own business?
Absolutely! We encourage you to toot your own horn and submit a nomination for your business.
I am not from Torbay, can I still nominate?
Yes, anyone can submit a nomination, including non-residents of Torbay, Town Staff and Town Councillors.
What if I do not have access to a computer or unable to nominate online?
No problem. If you are unable to submit a form online, please contact the Town’s Economic Development and Tourism Officer at 709-437-6532, ext 230 or kmurray@torbay.ca, to arrange receiving a paper-copy.
If a business won an award in a previous year, can they win again?
Yes, previous winners are eligible to win the following year(s). The nominations are provided to a selection committee external to the town who review and select winners.
What are the criteria to win a Business Award?
- A Business must be in operation within the Town of Torbay and be registered with the Town, operating with an approved business license.

A Business must also be in good standing (not in arrears) with respect to payment of business taxes.

A Non-profit organization must be in operation within the Town of Torbay and have made a commitment to provide a service to the community for the community
