The Best of Torbay celebrates the achievements of local businesses, entrepreneurs, volunteers and individuals that go above and beyond in our Town each and every day.

What once was two different events held at different times in the year with the Torbay Business Awards and the Torbay Volunteer Awards is now one bigger and better event that highlights both our local business community and volunteers.

Business of the Year Award

2024 - 2025 Business of the Year

The “Business of the Year” award for the Town of Torbay is given to the Business that exemplifies an all-round excellence in business as well as a significant contribution to the community.

  • In your opinion, describe how the business demonstrates an all-round excellence in business.

  • Describe how the business demonstrates an excellence in the field of customer service (e.g. customer feedback, promotions, etc.).
  • Describe how the business demonstrates product/ service differentiation in comparison to the competition.

Coach of the Year Award

The “Coach of the Year” award for the Town of Torbay is given to an individual that has made a significant impact in specific a sport or activity in the community.

Chief McGrath Award

The towns of Torbay and Flatrock in partnership with the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department are now accepting applications for the 2025 Chief McGrath Award.
This award will be presented to one student in Elementary, Junior High, and Highschool; who is either a resident of Torbay/Flatrock that best exhibit characteristics of leadership, commitment, community involvement, dedication and selflessness; while also being involved with various community groups and devoting time to volunteer initiatives.

Winners will be selected by a judging committee comprised of individuals outside of the Town of Torbay & Town of Flatrock staff, and Torbay Volunteer Fire Department. Successful recipients will receive a personalized plaque and a cash reward of $100 (Elementary & Junior High) or $250 (Highschool). Additionally, recipients will have their name added to the plaque of future and previous recipients that will be displayed during the event. Please note that any residents of the towns of Torbay and/or Flatrock are eligible for this award and does not have to attend one of the local schools within the area (Cape St.Francis Elementary, Holy Trinity Elementary, Juniper Ridge Intermediate, Holy Trinity High).

Customer Commitment Award

The “Customer Commitment Award” for the Town of Torbay is given to the Business that delivers consistent, superior, customer service and commitment to their patrons.

The “Economic Impact Award” for the Town of Torbay is given to the Business that is viewed as an economic driver within the community through its sustainable approach to business, as well as, investment in the Community that has significant positive impact on the economy of Torbay.

The “Young Entrepreneur” award for the Town of Torbay is given to a youth, under the age of 35, that has made a significant impact on the community with regards to business success and contribution to community events.

Criteria:

  • In your opinion, describe how the young entrepreneur became successful in their endeavours to become a successful business owner.
  • Describe the young entrepreneur’s contribution to the community through business or personal means (e.g. volunteer in the community, partnerships created…etc.)
  • Describe how the young entrepreneur displays a level of innovation and originality (e.g. overcoming obstacles, improving the business’ product/ service, etc.)
  • Describe how the entrepreneur displays leadership abilities and acts as a role model.
  • In your opinion, describe how the entrepreneur meets a need in the community in a unique and creative way.

The nomination period is now open from February 14th, 2025 – March 21st, 2025. The Chief McGrath Award nominations will be open an additional two weeks until April 4th, 2025. The full details and criterion of each award will be available once the nomination period opens.
