Update on State of Emergency for Thursday, January 23

Town of Torbay’s rotating State of Emergency will remain in effect with temporary lifting from the hours of 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, daily, until further notice. If you must leave your home, please proceed with caution and be mindful of snow clearing operations and pedestrians. All motorists will be prohibited from using roads in Torbay from the hours of 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM to aid in the continued snow clearing effort, with the exception of essential workers, emergency response vehicles, private snow clearing operators, and municipal snow clearing operations.

Town buildings and facilities will once again be open tomorrow, January 23 with the Town Hall opening at 9:00AM and Torbay Common opening at 10:00AM.

Regularly scheduled community programming will be cancelled for Thursday and Friday, January 23-24. Alternatively, free programming will be available at Torbay Common, 10:00AM-3:00PM, Thursday and Friday, including the Walking Track, Open Gym (6 years+), and Tots Soft Play (5 years & under) with parent supervision.

If you would like to request assistance with snow-clearing or another non-emergency, please contact the provincial emergency operations centre at (709) 729-3703 or, for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, requests can be sent by text to (709) 691-9493. If you have an emergency, please call 911.

Although we can not confirm whether or not you will receive a fine, we recommend you have your employer’s contact information available to confirm your hours of work should you be stopped.
