UPDATE: Holiday Garbage Collection Schedule
UPDATE: Due to inclement weather and high volumes, there have been several adjustments to the garbage collection schedule for the 2019 Holiday Season.
UPDATE -JANUARY 2: The Town of Torbay’s waste management contractor is continuing to catch-up on garbage collection. The updated garbage collection schedule for this week is as follows:
- Route 4 (Purple), regularly scheduled for collection on December 27, will be picked-up on Thursday, January 2
- Route 1 (Green), regularly scheduled for collection on December 31, will be picked up on Thursday, January 2.
- Route 2 (Blue), regularly scheduled for Wednesdays, will be collected on Friday, January 3.
- Route 3 (Red), regularly scheduled for Thursday, January 2, will be picked up on Saturday, January 4.
- Route 4 (Purple), regularly scheduled for Friday, January 3, will be picked up on Saturday, January 4.
The Town apologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause.
UPDATE – DECEMBER 31: The Town of Torbay’s contractor is continuing to catch-up on holiday garbage collection due to high garbage volume, shortened landfill hours of operation, and the weather event that occurred last week. As such, some of the garbage routes scheduled for pickup on December 31st may not be collected. Pickup will continue today until 4:00 pm. If your garbage has not been picked up by this time, please remove it from the curb as there is weather expected for tomorrow, January 1st. Garbage collection will resume on Thursday, January 2nd. If you are on a street where your neighbors garbage has been collected but yours was missed please contact the Town office. The Town apologizes for any inconvenience that this may have cause.
UPDATE – DECEMBER 30: Due to the high volume of garbage and the earlier closing of the landfill on Mondays, the contractor was unable to collect all the garbage scheduled to be collected Monday, December 30. All remaining garbage will be collected on Tuesday, December 31, along with the Tuesday and Wednesday routes already scheduled for pick-up that day.
UPDATE – DECEMBER 28: Originally, Tuesday and Wednesday routes were scheduled for pick-up on Tuesday, December 24, 2019 and Thursday and Friday routes were scheduled for pick-up on Friday, December 27, 2019. Due to the weather forecast for December 24, the collection schedule was adjusted, with Tuesday and Wednesday routes moved to Friday, December 27 for pick-up and Thursday and Friday routes moved to Monday, December 30. Due to the high volume of garbage (approximately double the normal amount), the contractor was unable to collect all of the garbage at that time. The contractor extended garbage pick-up to Saturday, December 28 in order to complete the scheduled collection. However, after approximately 85% of the remaining pickup was complete, the contractor had to cease garbage collection due to the earlier closing of the landfill on Saturdays at 12:00 noon. As a result, 15% of Wednesday’s route has not been picked up and has been added to Monday, December 30, scheduled pickup along with Thursday and Friday routes. The adjusted schedule for pick-up of Tuesday and Wednesday routes on Tuesday, December 31 will remain in place barring any changes due to inclement weather.
Residents are advised that due to the upcoming holidays there will be a change in garbage collection as follows:
- Garbage collection scheduled for Tuesday, December 24, 2019 & Wednesday, December 25, 2019 will now be collected on Friday, December 27, 2019
- Due to larger than normal volume, any routes on the holiday schedule for December 27th that was not collected will be collected on December 28th.
- Due to larger than normal volume, any routes on the holiday schedule for December 27th that was not collected will be collected on December 28th.
- Garbage collection scheduled for Thursday, December 26, 2019 & Friday, December 27, 2019 will now be collected on Monday, December 30, 2019
- Garbage collection scheduled for Wednesday, January 1, 2020 will now be collected on Tuesday December 31, 2019

Will my recycling be picked up today also (if it was scheduled for Christmas Day)?
What’s the story on Garbage collection??? Assume it will be Saturday now??? A little help here as it seems the Torbay for Families sure on Facebook has same questions.
Yes, garbage and recycling will both be picked up during the updated scheduled times.
Please refer to this article for details regarding your garbage pick-up. As garbage collection has seen above normal volume those scheduled for pickup in the holiday garbage schedule for Friday, December 27th that did not have their garbage picked up will have it picked up on Saturday, December 28th.
My garbage/recycling is still not picked up which was suppose to be done on the 27th, then the 28th? I don’t like leaving it out for the rodents. What is the plan?

I live in route 4 in the Easterbrook area and wondering when the garbage and recycling will be collected. We usually have it collected on Fridays.
It is now 4:30 pm Dec 30 and my garbage was scheduled to be picked up today, can I still expect it to be picked up?

Any garbage that was not collected on December 31st will be added to the January 2nd collection schedule.
If your garbage has not yet been picked up then it will be added to the January 2nd collection schedule.

Friday’s route was scheduled for pickup on Monday, December 30th. However, if your garbage has not yet been picked up then it will be added to the January 2nd collection schedule.
