EngageNL: Buildings Accessibility Act
Get involved, have your say! The Government of Newfoundland & Labrador is making changes to the Buildings Accessibility Act. The Buildings Accessibility Advisory Board (BAAB) is proposing a number of changes, including the exemption clause that currently exempts buildings constructed prior to 1981 from required accessibility upgrades. A questionnaire is posted on the https://www.engagenl.ca/engagement-initiatives/buildings-accessibility-act website, seeking feedback on the future of accessibility in our Province. This includes questions about requirements for future residential subdivision development, private homes, home-based businesses, public and commercial buildings, etc. as well as the expansion of the definition for ‘persons with disabilities to include mental, intellectual, visual, hearing, and other identifiable accessibility disabilities. Anyone can participate. The deadline for participation is January 31, 2022.
