Annual Hydrant Flushing Notice
The Town of Torbay’s Infrastructure and Public Works Department, Water and Sewer Division would like to advise residents that our annual Hydrant Flushing Program will be commencing on May 28th and will continue through into late June. Hydrant flushing is a vital maintenance operation that improves water quality, extends the life of pipes, and ensures hydrants are functioning properly in the event of an emergency.
Flushing will be completed daily between the hours of 9 am – 3 pm and will follow the following general progression throughout the Town:
1. Reddy Drive Area working down towards Torbay Road along North Pond Road and Convent Lane (1 week estimated time to complete)
2. Down Torbay Road towards Bridge Road Area, along with portions of Indian Meal Line and Lower Street (1 week estimated time to complete)
3. Up the North Side towards Thornes Lane and on to Dunphy’s Lane, then on to Bauline Line, Patrick’s Path, and Country Drive Areas (1 week estimated time to complete)
4. Marine Drive Area (1 week estimated time to complete)
During the flushing program residents throughout the Town can expect reduced water pressure, discoloration, and momentary interruption of water service. The Town advises residents to please refrain from doing laundry during these times as discoloration may cause staining of clothing.
If your water is discolored, please run your outside tap or bathtub until clear. After flushing is completed it may be a good time to drain your hot water tank to remove any buildup of sediment which can extend the life of your tank.
We thank you for your cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
